- Be a Philanthropist
“We think of a
philanthropist
as someone who donates big sums of money,
yet the word literally means ‘love of humankind.’
All of us are capable of being philanthropists.”
WHAT IS A
PHILANTHROPIST?
According to the American
Heritage Dictionary, philanthropy is defined as:
1. The effort or inclination
to increase the well-being of humankind, as by charitable aid or donations.
2. Love of humankind in
general.
Some synonyms for philanthropy are
Patrons, Generous or Charity Donors, and Humanitarians
If you have ever given your time,
talent, or treasure to a good cause, you are a patron.
If you have given as
much as you could share, you are a generous donor.
If you have given to a
charity such as Habitat for Humanity, your church, the Lawrence County
Community Foundation, or if you have supported the Salvation Army, you are a
charity donor.
If you have helped others in some
way because they needed it you are a humanitarian.
If
you have cared...
If you have given of yourself for others...
If you have put forth an effort to increase the well-being of humankind....
YOU ARE A PHILANTHROPIST!
The Community Foundation’s mission
is to help donors with charitable intent, like you, achieve their
philanthropic goals in our lifetimes and beyond.
You may give through the Community
Foundation now, or you may prefer to leave a gift in your will to the
charities near and dear to your heart. With a gift through the
Community Foundation, those charities
that you have supported during your lifetime will continue to receive that
support through a planned gift, after your lifetime.
BE A PHILANTHROPIST!
