Jim & Sheila Perry
Jim Perry grew up in Loogootee, Indiana. Though his career in industrial sales took him to Illinois, California, Minnesota, and Arizona, he always proudly claimed that Loogootee was HOME. He delighted in adding: “That’s spelled:
L, double O, G, double O, T, double E”.
Jim attended school at St. John’s Catholic School in Loogootee. In high school, class of 1957, he was an outstanding basketball player for the St. John’s Eagles. (Sadly, this school no longer exists.) Throughout his life Jim actively and enthusiastically participated in other sports beyond basketball, especially tennis and volleyball.
Sheila grew up in Green Isle, Minnesota, a small farming community that was named after Ireland. She is very proud of her 100% Irish heritage. How ironic that she and Jim now live very close to Ireland - Ireland, Indiana.
In 1989, Jim and Sheila married in Minnesota, later moved to Arizona, and recently moved to Legacy Living in Jasper, IN. When Sheila married Jim at the age of 52, she changed her last name from Corcoran to Corcoran-Perry (though a long one), to indicate her change personally and professionally.
Sheila had a 40-year career in academia, retiring as a full Professor after 30 years at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing. Her interests in how people process information to learn and to make decisions about health care led her to teach courses and conduct research on related topics.
Jim and Sheila are pleased to now be living close to Loogootee and near a large extended family. They gladly established the “Jim and Sheila Perry Scholarship” to give back to Loogootee and its students who need a little extra help to pursue their education and goals.
