2024 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Recipients

Taylor Lee

Taylor Lee, daughter of Chad Lee and Heather Reed, has been named Lawrence County Community Foundation’s 2024 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar.  Taylor is a senior at Mitchell High School and will work toward a bachelor’s degree in business, with a minor in political science.  Her school choice is currently undecided, but the top contenders are Indiana University and Purdue University. 

Taylor responded to the news by sharing, “I am extremely grateful and honored to be the 2024 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship recipient. It feels surreal to be reaching one of my dreams. I have been pushing myself for the last four years in hope of receiving this scholarship. I would like to thank my family and teachers who have helped me reach this point in my life. I am looking forward to all the opportunities this will open for me.”

Taylor has been active in school sports, playing on the MHS varsity volleyball team and travel team, and the MHS varsity basketball team.   She has worked with a group of incoming first-year students as a peer leader, and has been a member of the Student Council, and Honor Society.  What truly sets her apart though, an educator writes, is her unwavering commitment to academic excellence. 

 

Carson Shaw

Carson Reid Shaw, son of Benjamin “Chad” and Kellie Shaw, has been named Martin County Community Foundation’s 2024 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar.  Carson is a senior at Shoals High School and will work toward an Engineering degree at the University of Evansville. 

Carson responded to the news by sharing “I want to take a moment to convey my thanks and appreciation to the Martin County Community Foundation for selecting me as the 2024 Lilly Endowment Scholarship winner. I am grateful for this generous scholarship, and the opportunities that may open for me as I continue to pursue my future academic goals. I truly appreciate this prestige honor and am humbled to have been chosen.”

A few excerpts from Carson’s reference letters include: Carson possesses many qualities that make him an excellent worker and student.  He has had a positive impact on others. Carson is an outstanding individual that puts the needs of others before his own. Carson is able to balance his studies, sports activities, extracurricular activities, and work so that each receives the attention it deserves and requires. I am confident that Carson will excel in his academic endeavors and beyond. Carson is an academically solid student with a deep pride for his community.”
